Psychophysical measurement of cortical color mechanisms not sensitive to spatial frequency

Received 15 January 1975, in revised form 21 November 1975

Abstract. Virsu and Haapasalo report that the Blakemore and Sutton apparent spatial-frequency shift is not color specific. Also supposedly demonstrated is a McCollough effect that is not specific to spatial frequency. It is suggested that inadequate test procedures and a confusion between retinal and cortical adaptation negate these results.
