The process of 'taking-into-account' in visual perception
Received 8 August 1973
Abstract. In order to secure useful information the perceptual system must combine information present in the retinal counterpart of the to-be-discriminated distal variable with information about other variables that affect the state of the retinal counterpart. This combinatorial process may be called -- following Woodworth's lead -- the process of 'taking-into-account'.
